More about this tour
Big Zagreb is a private walking tour with young but experienced guides, who will give you a great introduction to the Croatian capital. Guests will explore the streets of Zagreb and learn lots of interesting stories about the city's past and present.
The first part of the tour takes you to the very beginnings of Zagreb. In the past, the city was divided into two towns – Kaptol and Gradec. The tour covers both. While exploring Kaptol, guests will see the monumental Zagreb Cathedral, the 16th century town walls of Kaptol and the lively Dolac farmers’ market.
After the farmers’ market, guests will enter Gradec, also known as Old Town, through the 13th century Stone Gate. There they will marvel at the iconic rooftop of St. Mark's church, learn the story why a cannon fires every day at noon from the Lotrscak Tower, see one of the shortest funiculars in the world and enjoy some stunning views.
After a walk around the older part of the city, guests will visit Downtown Zagreb: Flower Square with its busy cafes and the famous Green Horseshoe. A perfect example of park architecture, this strip of exquisite parks and squares comprises the most beautiful walk in all of Zagreb. A building that will surely catch your eye during the walk is the most important cultural institution in Croatia – the Croatian National Theatre.
The tour can start from any centrally located meeting point (hotel lobbies or Ban Jelacic Square). The standard route can be modified according to our guests' requests and interests, e.g. pick-up and drop-off spots, etc.
